Is Winter leaving you Dull?

Is Winter leaving you with a Dull Complexion?

Dehydrated skin cells turn over much slower in the winter months, causing a buildup of dead skin, which hinders light reflection. Circulation also gets sluggish—and just like that, your beautiful summer glow is gone and fine lines look more pronounced. Just one of the many downfalls of winter.

Soothing Solution: Bolster your beauty from the inside out by drinking lots of water and loading up on omega-3s (essential fatty acids found in foods such as salmon and walnuts). Omega- 3s boost hydration, so I recommend taking supplements to ensure you get enough.

Your daily skin regimen should start with a milky or creamy cleanser, which contains fewer stripping surfactants than gel formulas do. Try Mineral Silk Soothing Milk Cleanser or my other favorite winter cleanser the Tea Time Cleanser. Both just $9.97 each.

Follow with a cream or balm instead of a lotion. They're richer and better at holding water in the skin,  Try our Shea Butter Whipped Creme. Creams insulate the skin, which is key when you're constantly going between the cold outside and the drying heat indoors.
Enjoy your Winter with these easy tips!

Stop the Bites and Itching this Summer!

Summer Driving You Buggy?

The summer here in Minnesota has been terrible, with temperatures in the 90's or higher, humidity and the rain that comes with it, you have a breeding ground for Mosquitoes! Not just one hatching but, a continuous mosquito outbreak.  I have so many bites and welts this year I am starting to look like a leper!

So what does one do when the normal repellents aren't working, you make your own of course! After researching books on essential oils, websites and a book I found in a local antique store I came up with a formula that is keeping the bugs away! While sitting on our porch yesterday we were being attacked by mutant house flies, so out came the Bug Away.  I sprayed it around us, instead of on us, just to test out the formula.  Voila, the bugs took off and we were able to sit in peace without bites or the constant annoying sound of bzzzzzzzzzz hanging around us.

If you are tired of bugs, bites, and rubbing chemicals like Deet on your skin just to enjoy some time outdoors.  Check out our new Bug Away formula and enjoy the remainder of the Summer itch free!

Wake Up and Glow

My morning begins with good intentions. I vow to rise early, bounce out of bed with bright eyes, and have a measured, relaxed start to the day.  All too often though, I wake up late, race through my morning routine, and leave my home driving my daughter to school with dry skin, dark circles and damp hair, clutching that morning cup of coffee to jolt my energy!

To reassess my routine, I have found some quick fixes.

Soon after waking, fill a mug with hot water and add a slice of lemon or lime.  The citrus juice gets your blood flowing and your digestive system working, clearing congestion from your skin.  For alternative caffeine free morning stimulant, drink a cup of peppermint tea.

If you have bags under your eyes, so some stretches and jog in place for five minutes upon waking. Or run up and down a flight of stairs--this helps drain fluid from under your eyes. If time doesn't allow this do some stretches or lunges while brushing your teeth.  Or try the old stand by and stick two spoons in your freezer at night and hold them and lightly roll them across the eye area to decrease puffiness.

Try these quick tips out and feel free to send us some of your quick tips for your morning routine.

The Great Brush Off

Dry-brushing is a kind of detox for the skin, improving circulation and invigorating the body.  If you don't have sensitive or broken skin, try it once a day before showering.  Start at your feet and brush in small, circular motions moving toward the heart.

My New Favorite source of information - Whole Living Magazine

I LOVE this magazine and cant wait for the nexts months insightful articles such as the one below.

Fruits and vegetables protect your insides, sure. But we're now discovering their huge potential to help on the outside, too. Antioxidants work by slowing oxidation, a natural aging process that's accelerated by sun and pollutants. (Oxidation's the culprit when a sliced banana turns brown.) A cornucopia of edibles has recently found its way into antioxidant masks, cleansers, brighteners, peels, and moisturizers -- even mascara and lip gloss. Although many antioxidant sources (blueberries, grapes, green tea) are well-known, keep your eye out for these newcomers.

Lycopene
Derived from boiled tomato skin, lycopene functions as an antioxidant and free-radical scavenger.

Shiitake Mushrooms
An edible Asian mushroom, shiitake has antioxidant properties and contains beta glucan, which promotes skin healing.

Goji Berries
The shiny red Asian berry is a rich source of vitamin C and the antioxidant zeaxanthin, as well as beta-carotene and essential fatty acids.

Horseradish and Fennel
Horseradish and fennel both induce production of superoxide dismutas (SOD), an antioxidant enzyme that occurs naturally in human cells. Adding it to your regimen is especially important because SOD production slows with age.

Amalaki or Amla Fruit
A yellowish-green fruit used in Ayurvedic therapies, it's about 20 times higher in vitamin C than an orange and is a source of superoxide dismutase.
