Getting Started with Mineral Makeup

How to Properly Apply Mineral Makeup
If you are considering including mineral makeup in your routine, then it is important to know how to apply it.  Unlike traditional makeup, mineral makeup does not need to be applied in a thick coat to achieve the desired results and to cover up blemishes.  In fact, the principle of less equals more usually works best for your skin and mineral makeup.

Start with the mineral makeup foundation
The first part of mineral makeup that you will start with will be the foundation.  A large round brush, like a kabuki brush, or one specifically designed for mineral makeup, is usually your best tool, though a sponge can be useful if you need a thicker application to cover a problem area.

If you have redness, scarring, brown spots etc, that you would like to hide. Apply a concealer or corrector before your mineral makeup foundation using a ultimate concealer brush.  We will talk about using concealers in another article.
Gently apply one or two layers of coverage to meet your needs. You can use a buffing action in circular motions or just press the minerals on to the skin with your brush and continue to swipe across your face until the desired look is achieved. If you have excessively oily skin, you can use a finishing powder such as Satin for a more even look. While a skin moisturizer can help set the foundation of your mineral powder if you have dry skin.

Adding on mineral makeup blush
Mineral makeup blushes are designed to brighten your complexion, while still looking natural.  The goal is to have your makeup look natural – not look like you have on makeup.  A tapered mineral makeup brush works best for blush application.  Pat the minerals onto your chosen brush and sweep softly over the cheeks to accentuate the shape of your face.  You can gently pucker your cheeks, or smile to find the natural curve of your cheekbone, and then sweep in an upwards “c” motion to accentuate your bone structure.

Highlighting with mineral makeup eye shadow
For mineral makeup eye shadow, patting minerals gently on to your brush will get you the best effect.  A variety of small brushes in different styles can be used to achieve the specific look that you would like.  To apply the mineral makeup, sweep, blend, or pat the minerals onto your eyelids and/or over creases to create the desired effect.  If you want to make your eyes look bigger, then keep the darker mineral makeup eye shadow colors closer to your lashes, while lightening the color as you reach closer to your eyebrows. You can also wet the minerals for a more intense color or use our mineral eye liner sealer for an all day look.

Puckering with mineral makeup Lippies
To apply mineral makeup Lippies swipe across lips or use a tapered lip brush for the most precise application.  You will find that lip colors of mineral makeup can be soft and sheer or more intense with layering.

Using expert help
If you are new to mineral makeup, you might consider seeking the assistance of a professional or a friend that currently uses mineral makeup before trying to apply mineral makeup yourself.  Mineral makeup does require a different application technique than the traditional makeup you are accustomed to using, and applying it incorrectly could lead to unexpected and undesired results. Someone who is familiar with minerals can show you how to apply each type of mineral makeup in a way that will be complimentary for your skin, as well assist you in finding the colors that will look the most natural on you.  With a little effort, you can easily learn how to apply the mineral makeup at home to create your own flawless look.
