3 mineral make up tips to create an effortless, natural look quickly and easily

One of the best aspects about mineral makeup is that you can achieve a flawless, natural look with very little effort.  The secret to achieving this perfect look is all about knowing how to apply mineral makeup correctly.

What you should know about mineral makeup
The important thing to know about mineral makeup is that it is very different from your traditional cosmetics.  It does not include chemicals like sodium laurel sulfate in its design, but instead mineral makeup up is comprised of pure minerals.  Because of this, the mineral makeup sits on top of your skin, instead of being absorbed by it, which keeps it from clogging pores or irritating skin.

Mineral makeup also allows you to create a natural look without having to cake on product.  The only downside to using mineral makeup is that it can be a bit messy for beginners, thus, one mineral make up tip is to set up an old towel over your bathroom counter to catch any loose dust or spills that might occur to make cleanup easier.

Before getting started
While mineral makeup matches your skin tone significantly easier than traditional cosmetics, there are a few things to consider before choosing your perfect colors.  In the summer, try using lighter applications and lighter colors for a more natural look.  In the winter, you can use richer colors to give your skin added warmth.

Mineral make up tip #1 – Use the right brush
One of the first mineral make up tips for achieving the natural look is to go with the correct brush.  If you are using a powder mineral foundation, a kabuki brush is often your best choice.  The short, wide brush makes it easier to apply makeup without getting the makeup everywhere.  However, if you are using liquid mineral makeup foundation, you may find that using your fingers will allow you to get a more even application.  Eye shadows can be more naturally applied using a fluff brush, as the longer and thinner bristles allow you to focus the color exactly where you want it to go.

Having the right mineral makeup foundation for your skin type is an important mineral make up tip to follow if you want to achieve a natural look.  Women with oily skin should avoid liquid mineral makeup and only use the powder.  Also, pay close attention to the ingredients – a mineral makeup including Bismuth Oxychloride will cause oily skin to look even shinier.  On the other hand, women with dry skin will often get better results using a liquid mineral makeup foundation, as it will provide better coverage.  For most women, mineral makeup can be used even if they have sensitive skin.

Mineral make up tip #3 – Learn to mix
A third mineral make up tip that you can try is to mix your mineral makeup with your daily moisturizer.  This works well for women who have dry skin and need the extra moisture boost, or for women who want or need more sun protection than the mineral makeup can provide.  This also allows you to control how much color is included in your foundation to help you create the perfect natural look for your skin tone and type.

Learning to apply mineral makeup properly will allow you to easily achieve stunning, natural results in just minutes.  With these mineral make up tips – and many more – your face will show its natural beauty, instead of the coloration of traditional makeup.

Why mineral cosmetics are a healthier choice

People are finally beginning to take a different look at what they put on and in their bodies. Whether it is the food they eat, the shots they give their children, or the clothing they put on their bodies, many people are looking for healthier alternatives for the products that they use every day.  Why should your makeup be any different?  Here is a look at why mineral cosmetics can be a healthier choice.

What are mineral cosmetics?
Mineral cosmetics are different from your traditional makeup choices because they are made with minerals that have been sterilized and then ground into a fine powder.  The powder is then mixed with natural colorings to create the color palates you choose to use.  Mineral cosmetics are natural, free of chemicals that abound in traditional makeup.

Non-comedogenic mineral cosmetics
One of the main health benefits of mineral cosmetics is that they are non-comedogenic.  This means that they allow the skin to breathe, instead of blocking the pores.  This makes it a great option for women that have sensitive skin.  Mineral cosmetics can be used by women with rosacea, acne, and other skin irritations – allowing them to use makeup without aggravating their skin problems.

Limited bacteria growth
Traditional cosmetics use materials for their colorants that will allow bacteria and other organisms to grow.  For this reason, you have to discard your traditional makeup frequently to maintain healthy skin. In addition, they have to use preservatives that can irritate sensitive skin.  On the other hand, mineral cosmetics use inorganic ingredients that do not provide bacteria a home.  This means a much lower risk of skin infections, as well as a longer shelf life without the use of chemicals.

Skin protection with mineral cosmetics
Another health benefit of mineral cosmetics is that they can provide both UVA and UVB sun protection.  This will protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun, helping to prevent wrinkles, discoloration, and skin damage.
Also, mineral cosmetics contain minerals that are essential for your skin’s health, such as zinc and magnesium, and anti-inflammatory ingredients.  This allows mineral cosmetics to heal the skin, while improving the appearance at the same time.  And since mineral cosmetics do not use oil during the manufacturing process, they do not exasperate the problem of oily skin that some women have.

A healthier look through mineral cosmetics
Of course, many women choose cosmetics to enhance their appearances.  Cosmetics can hide a variety of problems, from blemishes to wrinkles.  Mineral cosmetics sit on top of the skin, so they help to hide the look of fine lines and wrinkles – giving your skin a healthy, youthful appearance.  It is water resistant, and you can even sleep with mineral cosmetics on, making it easy to prepare your makeup the night before for the next day, or crash after that late night party without worrying about the effects it will have on your skin.

Deciding to make the switch to mineral cosmetics will have a variety of benefits for your skin.  Most importantly, however, is that it will not only make your skin look good, but it will cause it to feel and be healthier overall.

Why minerals makeup is better for your skin than traditional liquid foundations
For many women, the application of makeup goes in stages.  Of these, the first stage is usually the foundation.  The foundation is one of the most important parts of your makeup routine, since any other color you apply goes on top of this layer.  However, the wrong color or the wrong chemical makeup could cause an unexpected look to your makeup or an unexpected skin reaction.

Different makeup for different skin types
If you are currently using traditional liquid foundations, you have probably already determined out what type of foundation works best for your skin.  Different skin types need different foundations, and some women do better with a powder and others with a cream.  If you have sensitive skin, you already know how important it is to find the perfect brand of traditional foundation for you – otherwise, you will experience breakouts or rashes as a result.
However, this is where minerals makeup is different.  Anyone, with any skin type, can use minerals makeup foundation.  It works on all types of skin, is light weight, hypoallergenic, and can even make your skin healthier.  Plus, minerals makeup can provide you the coverage that you need without having to cake a product on your face.

Fewer chemicals and additives in minerals makeup
If you take a minute to read the label on your traditional foundation, you will find that it is full of chemicals and preservatives.  You may also have to pay close to the color additives to find your perfect shade.  Minerals makeup foundation, on the other hand, includes natural colorants and has few, if any, chemicals and preservatives in it.  Yet, it also manages to last longer than your traditional foundation in terms of shelf life because it naturally inhibits bacterial growth.  There are several colors of foundation, but because of the way that minerals makeup foundation works with your existing skin tone, it is not as crucial to find that one perfect shade.

Healthy skin benefits from minerals makeup
Minerals makeup foundation also has healthy skin benefits over traditional foundation.  It is waterproof, and thus, it works equally well while you are at the gym or beach as it does at the office.  The minerals provide your skin with natural sun protection to help prevent sun damage and premature aging.  And the minerals found in minerals makeup foundation can actually help improve your skin by providing it with the nutrients it need, even healing acne and other skin conditions.

Cost effective nature of minerals makeup
It might appear that minerals makeup foundation is more expensive than traditional foundation, but take a closer look, and you will find that you will often end up spending less money.  You often need less makeup when you use minerals makeup foundation than you do when you use traditional makeup to achieve the same results.  This aspect, combined with the antibacterial properties, means that a bottle of mineral makeup foundation can last you significantly longer than a similar bottle of traditional makeup.
From the office to the beach, and everywhere else in between, minerals makeup helps improve your beauty, as well as the long-term health of your skin.

Getting Started with Mineral Makeup

How to Properly Apply Mineral Makeup
If you are considering including mineral makeup in your routine, then it is important to know how to apply it.  Unlike traditional makeup, mineral makeup does not need to be applied in a thick coat to achieve the desired results and to cover up blemishes.  In fact, the principle of less equals more usually works best for your skin and mineral makeup.

Start with the mineral makeup foundation
The first part of mineral makeup that you will start with will be the foundation.  A large round brush, like a kabuki brush, or one specifically designed for mineral makeup, is usually your best tool, though a sponge can be useful if you need a thicker application to cover a problem area.

If you have redness, scarring, brown spots etc, that you would like to hide. Apply a concealer or corrector before your mineral makeup foundation using a ultimate concealer brush.  We will talk about using concealers in another article.
Gently apply one or two layers of coverage to meet your needs. You can use a buffing action in circular motions or just press the minerals on to the skin with your brush and continue to swipe across your face until the desired look is achieved. If you have excessively oily skin, you can use a finishing powder such as Satin for a more even look. While a skin moisturizer can help set the foundation of your mineral powder if you have dry skin.

Adding on mineral makeup blush
Mineral makeup blushes are designed to brighten your complexion, while still looking natural.  The goal is to have your makeup look natural – not look like you have on makeup.  A tapered mineral makeup brush works best for blush application.  Pat the minerals onto your chosen brush and sweep softly over the cheeks to accentuate the shape of your face.  You can gently pucker your cheeks, or smile to find the natural curve of your cheekbone, and then sweep in an upwards “c” motion to accentuate your bone structure.

Highlighting with mineral makeup eye shadow
For mineral makeup eye shadow, patting minerals gently on to your brush will get you the best effect.  A variety of small brushes in different styles can be used to achieve the specific look that you would like.  To apply the mineral makeup, sweep, blend, or pat the minerals onto your eyelids and/or over creases to create the desired effect.  If you want to make your eyes look bigger, then keep the darker mineral makeup eye shadow colors closer to your lashes, while lightening the color as you reach closer to your eyebrows. You can also wet the minerals for a more intense color or use our mineral eye liner sealer for an all day look.

Puckering with mineral makeup Lippies
To apply mineral makeup Lippies swipe across lips or use a tapered lip brush for the most precise application.  You will find that lip colors of mineral makeup can be soft and sheer or more intense with layering.

Using expert help
If you are new to mineral makeup, you might consider seeking the assistance of a professional or a friend that currently uses mineral makeup before trying to apply mineral makeup yourself.  Mineral makeup does require a different application technique than the traditional makeup you are accustomed to using, and applying it incorrectly could lead to unexpected and undesired results. Someone who is familiar with minerals can show you how to apply each type of mineral makeup in a way that will be complimentary for your skin, as well assist you in finding the colors that will look the most natural on you.  With a little effort, you can easily learn how to apply the mineral makeup at home to create your own flawless look.

Just when I thought Fall was heading this way, we went back into the 90's and the humidity is back!

This heat can take a toll on your makeup and some Mineral Makeups can actually make you itch in this hot humid weather.  Why? Well some people actually have a reaction to some of the Zinc in Mineral Makeup.  This can cause a slight tingling, itching or stinging feeling.  Not typically noticeable when the weather isn't hot and humid but, these reactions can happen if your skin has sensitivities like mine.

I have found a quick and easy solution to stop the itching.  During the Summer months I add two sample size jars of "Real Silk Powder" to my foundation.  This helps soothe skin during these humid months. Actually every time I open a new foundation jar I automatically add two of the sample jars.  It makes your skin feel soft and dewy. If you don't want to add it to your Foundation, then just l
ightly dust on before your Mineral Foundation application to help seal moisture into your skin. Silk is a natural moisture-adjusting product which can absorb or release moisture as the temperature and humidity change. It is also a powder which breathes.

Now, I am sure you are asking why we don't add it to our Mineral Silk Foundation Formula.  Well, unfortunately "Real Silk Powder" is slightly higher in cost than our other ingredients we add to our foundations.  So instead of adding it to the formula, we simply suggest that for those that have issues with sensitivity, they add it to there personal foundation.
