10 Stylish Makeup Tips for Teens

If you are a teen, you may be somewhat new to the makeup scene.  However, stopping at your local drugstore, salon, or department store can be an overload.  What colors do you use?  How much do you put on?  What looks will flatter your face type?  Here are some tips to helping you get the most out of your makeup.

1.     Keep it Clean.
One of the best things that you can do with is to keep your skin clean.  Every evening, make sure that you remove all makeup, dirt, and oil from the day before you to bed.  A daily gentle scrub and a weekly purifying mask can help to keep your pores clean and prevent breakouts.

2.     Protect your skin
While it may not seem like a big makeup tip now, protecting your skin now will help to keep it looking younger as you get older.  Make sure that you put on sunscreen every day.  Even in the winter and on cloudy days, you are exposed to UVA and UVB radiation.

3.     Skip the foundation
Another makeup tip for teens is to skip the foundation.  Too much makeup will look like overkill.  Your goal is to go natural.  Use concealer to cover up blemishes you might have.  If you want color, try tinted bronzers for a sun kissed look, or try powder mineral makeup to brighten the skin. Packing on foundation is not going to hide acne, Not only will it not hide your acne, it will actually make it worse. Keep it simple and healthy!

4.     Blend, blend, blend.
Properly blended makeup is the key to achieving a natural look.  Once you have applied your face color, go over the entire face with a foundation brush to smooth it out.

5.     Keep eyes fresh
Healthy eyes have a natural sparkle, and focusing on the eyes is a key makeup tip.  To begin with, make sure that you drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods to help keep your eyes clear.  To reduce redness, try over the counter drops.

6.     Learn to line
One of the key makeup tips to having bright eyes is learning how to line them properly.  Use dots between the lashes on the lower lash line and smudge to create a natural look.  Line the outside rim of upper lashes to make eyes appear more open.  Use white eyeliner pencil in the inside corner of lower lashes to make eyes appear brighter.

7.     Curl away
Another eye opening makeup tip for teens is to curl your eyelashes.  Always curl your eyelashes before you apply any makeup for the best results.

8.     Keep eyebrows natural
While a unibrow is unbecoming, over plucking can be as well.  Hold a pencil along the side of your nose so it stands straight up and down.  Where the point touches your eyebrow is where the eyebrow should begin.  Angle the pencil past the outer corner of your eye to find where it should end.  Avoid over plucking.  Eyebrow pencils and powders can help fill in thin eyebrows, and finish this step by using a toothbrush to comb brows into the same direction.

9.     Take care of your lips
Lips are another highlight area of teen makeup, so pay close attention to them.  A makeup tip for teens is to keep lips healthy.  Use a toothbrush with a small amount of lip balm to exfoliate the lips before putting on gloss or lipstick, and always use sun protection to prevent burning.

10. Don’t over color
Another bad habit of teen girls is to overdo lip colors.  You might want to avoid lipstick until you become more experienced, and instead opt for lip gloss or sheer colors.  Neutrals look good on all skin tones.

No matter what you decide to do, remember to always choose your focus.  For teen makeup, less equals more, and overdoing your color can cause unexpected results.

Brightening Beer Facial

I am more of a wine drinker than a beer girl. Although I do like a cold corona with lime while sitting on the beach. But lets be honest, that only happens once every couple of years! Luckily my hubby is a beer drinker and we always have something in the fridge, so I never have an issue whipping up this mask.

What you need:
1 egg white; ½ cup beer (any brand); and 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice. No limes handy feel free to use some lemon juice!

How it works: Beer is a soothing cleanser. “It contains B vitamins, hops, saccharides, and yeast, which help dissolve dead skin cells and increase the skin’s luminosity. When mixed with egg white, the yeast in the beer creates a filmy mask that hydrates and improves the elasticity of the skin. Adding a dash of lime, a source of vitamin C, helps to clear pores and fade brown spots.

Do it yourself: Combine the egg white and beer with the lime juice. Slather onto the face. After 10 minutes, rinse with warm water.

Wait! If your hair is feeling a little lifeless and flat, use the yolk and remainder of beer to make yourself a hair masque!

Beer is definitely worth trying out to make your hair feel a little fuller. And, in order to make this mask even better, simply add one egg yolk. So one egg yolk and 2 oz of beer (some claim it should be flat or that you should cook off the alcohol) I just use it straight from the bottle – how simpler can it be! Apply this mixture on your damp hair, wrap it in plastic and let it sit over the next 30 minutes.

Doctor’s Orders: How Mineral Makeup Can Soothe Rosacea & Improve Your Skin’s Appearance

Rosacea can be a particularly difficult condition, especially for women.  Not only does it disrupt your complexion, but it can be aggravated with traditional makeup that you might try to use to hide it.  Here is a look at mineral makeup and why it should be your Rosacea makeup.
The problem with traditional makeup
The problem with traditional makeup is that it can clog pores and make Rosacea even more irritated or inflamed.  This goes for both oil and water based cosmetics.  The preservatives, fragrances, and other chemical ingredients can be irritating to anyone’s skin, but can be especially irritating to those battling Rosacea.
Mineral makeup as Rosacea makeup
Mineral makeup is the perfect makeup because it doesn’t contain the harmful ingredients that traditional makeup does.  In addition, mineral makeup contains beneficial ingredients that can help protect and heal Rosacea skin.  Zinc oxide, an ingredient found in all mineral makeup, works as a sun protection and a barrier to outside pollutants. Stay away from Mineral makeup that contains Bismuth Oxychloride, as many women with Rosacea find this irritates their skin even further from all the buffing it takes to make it blend into the skin.

Why mineral makeup is good Rosacea makeup
1.     Mineral makeup is applied in a powder form.  Powdered Rosacea makeup will cover redness, acne, and keep your face less oily.
2.     Mineral makeup includes ingredients that nourish the skin and neutralize oils.  Nourished skin is healthy skin, and healthy skin can heal itself faster.
3.     Many mineral makeup formulations do not have preservatives.  Preservatives are thought to be one of the leading causes of skin irritations and are often found in high concentrations in traditional makeup formulations.
4.     Mineral makeup is also free of fragrances, which is another irritant.
5.     Mineral makeup helps prevent outbreaks of Rosacea by calming the skin.
6.     Mineral makeup helps condition the skin naturally, healing blemishes and redness.
7.     Mineral makeup contains zinc oxide, one of the treatments that dermatologists regularly use to help clear up Rosacea problems.
8.     Mineral makeup covers the skin and neutralizes redness without having to be caked on in large amounts.  This allows for a natural look and prevents the skin from drying out due to too much makeup.  Mineral makeup is even gentle enough to sleep in.

Read labels
Before purchasing any mineral makeup to use as your Rosacea makeup, it is important to thoroughly read the label.  Just because a mineral makeup company says that it is all natural does not mean that it contains all of the important ingredients.  Look for a high quality Rosacea makeup with as few ingredients as possible.  Stay away from products that contain potential “mineral” irritants such as talc, waxes, fillers, alcohol and Bismuth Oxychloride.  Look for mineral makeup that has zinc oxide high on the ingredient list.  Avoid “natural” fragrances such as lavender.  A little label reading will go a long way to helping you find the right makeup for Rosacea.
While Rosacea can be a pain to live with, finding the right Rosacea makeup can make it more tolerable.  Mineral makeup is one of the few suggestions that dermatologists and Rosacea experts will recommend to their patients as a way to prevent and cure Rosacea while still looking great.
